India’s first chip-building push under the Semicon India program has three projects in commercial production, a milestone the government plans to showcase at its flagship industry event next month. Organizers confirmed the prime minister will preside: Narendra Modi takes the podium at the opening, and the gathering runs in New Delhi from September 17 through 19.
The show is expected to draw more than 500 exhibitors, including 243 international companies, plus over 150 speakers and delegates from more than 40 countries. Its Transform Tomorrow banner, with the subtitle Silicon to Systems – Building the Ecosystem, ties the edition to India’s goal of owning more of the value chain.
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said the three producing projects mark the first fruits of the program, and the government is drafting Semicon 2.0 for the next stage. That follow-up rests on six pillars: chip design, machines and materials, additional fabs, ATMP and OSAT growth, R&D and talent.
SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha sees India earning a bigger role in global supply chains, while ISM CEO Amitesh Kumar Sinha framed the gathering as a meeting point for approved manufacturers and firms weighing Indian opportunities.
A Sand to Silicon to Systems experience will walk visitors through the country’s capabilities from materials and manufacturing to complete electronic systems.
