Chip industry sources indicate that Meta’s cloud AI chip procurement could soon catch up with Google or Amazon AWS among the four major cloud service providers. Qualcomm and Broadcom are expected to remain key partners in Meta’s silicon strategy as the social media giant accelerates its custom chip development.

Meta is working with MediaTek and TSMC to push its AI chip ambitions forward. The collaboration represents a significant challenge to Google’s TPU ecosystem and Amazon’s Trainium and Inferentia chips. Meta’s third custom datacenter chip is reportedly in development, following the MTIA series.

The push highlights a broader industry trend: leading cloud providers are increasingly investing in custom silicon to optimize performance and power efficiency for their specific AI workloads, reducing dependence on merchant silicon suppliers. TSMC’s advanced packaging and manufacturing capabilities are central to enabling these customized designs.
