ASML is adding a second industrial campus in the Netherlands’ Brainport region as chipmakers queue up for its lithography tools. Construction has begun at Brainport Industries Campus North in Eindhoven, a multi-phase site planned to span roughly 350,000 square meters and eventually hold as many as 20,000 workplaces.
The centerpiece is a production concept ASML calls the flow factory, a reworking of how TWINSCAN lithography systems are assembled that borrows line-based methods from automotive and aerospace plants to move materials and modules faster. The first wave of employees is due in 2029, when at least 3,000 people relocate from existing ASML sites into the new production, logistics and office space.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten attended the groundbreaking on September 8 alongside ASML president and CEO Christophe Fouquet, who tied the build-out to relentless demand growth across the semiconductor industry. Fouquet said the Eindhoven site will work alongside the company’s Veldhoven headquarters and industrial campus rather than replace them.
ASML’s finished Brainport footprint will spread across three campuses in the two cities. The project also depends on public-private efforts covering housing and talent development, and it sits within a wider global expansion that has included a larger Japan presence supporting customers such as Rapidus and TSMC.
