Semiconductor test is getting more expensive as chips get more complex, and Diodes just closed a deal that bets on that trend. The analog and power chip maker has completed its $250M all-cash purchase of ElevATE Semiconductor, a fabless designer in San Diego whose circuits handle some of the industry’s toughest automated test chores.
ElevATE’s products range from high-voltage pin electronics to precision measurement blocks, and they target the ATE market, where rising complexity in AI accelerators, advanced packaging and high-speed interfaces keeps pushing test intensity up.
The unit will keep its engineering teams and customers and run as a product line inside Diodes, gaining access to the buyer’s global manufacturing footprint and sales network.
First-year revenue from the deal is pegged at around $50M, and Diodes says the addition should lift revenue, gross margin and earnings per share from day one.
Gary Yu, Diodes’ chief executive, called the close an important step in the company’s move toward higher-value analog and mixed-signal work and welcomed the incoming team.
The purchase is part of a wider consolidation wave in test-related silicon as validation grows more complex across the industry.
