May semiconductor sales of $120.6 billion were up 9.2% on April’s $110.5 billion and 104.1% more than the $59.1 billion of May 2025, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association. This marks the highest-ever recorded monthly sales total and the 15th consecutive month of month-to-month growth.

“The global semiconductor market continued to grow substantially in May, hitting the highest-ever recorded monthly sales total,” said SIA CEO John Neuffer. “Sales growth continues to be driven by strong year-to-year growth in the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region, and China.”

Regionally, year-to-year sales in May were up in the Americas (132.2%), Asia Pacific/All Other (118.9%), China (88.8%), Europe (60.7%), and Japan (23.8%). Month-to-month sales increased in China (10.2%), the Americas (9.2%), Europe (3.1%), Japan (2.9%), and Asia Pacific/All Other (3.5%).

The data underscores that AI demand remains the primary growth driver for the semiconductor industry, with non-AI markets showing more modest performance. The chip industry is on track for a $1.5 trillion year in 2026, with some forecasters projecting $1.9 trillion in 2027.
