Siemens has acquired Precision Innovations, a San Diego-based electronic design automation startup, to bring AI-driven chip planning into its EDA portfolio. The deal adds early-stage design exploration tools that help semiconductor teams evaluate thousands of architecture options before committing to detailed implementation.
Precision Innovations builds its software on the open-source OpenROAD framework. The tools assess design feasibility, power, performance, and area tradeoffs at the system-on-chip planning stage, reducing the number of late-stage iterations that slow time-to-market. The company was founded in 2019 with a mission to democratize hardware design by lowering the cost and expertise barriers that limited access to advanced semiconductor technologies.
“With Precision Innovations joining Siemens, we will expand our ability to support customers as they face rapidly increasing SoC complexity,” said Ankur Gupta, executive vice president of the IC portfolio at Siemens EDA.
The acquisition strengthens Siemens’ Digital Design Creation software flow, which already spans architecture exploration, implementation, and silicon lifecycle management. Precision’s technology will slot into the front end of that pipeline, giving designers an AI-assisted feasibility analysis layer before they enter the full implementation flow.

The purchase continues a pattern of EDA consolidation as the industry responds to rising chip complexity. Siemens has invested heavily in AI for semiconductor design over the past two years, including system-level tools for PCB and advanced packaging announced at DAC 2025.
