An all-big-core cluster of eight Arm cores sits at the heart of MediaTek’s new flagship, the Dimensity 9600 Pro, which arrives on Tuesday alongside a cheaper 9600M.
Two C2-Ultra cores run at 4.55GHz. The other six are C2-Pro parts, split between 4.35GHz and 3.10GHz tiers. That 2+3+3 arrangement, plus a 21 percent larger L2 cache system, is what MediaTek credits for 17 percent faster single-core and 15 percent higher multi-core throughput than last year’s chip.
The bigger shift is the process. MediaTek put TSMC’s 2nm node into an Android flagship before Qualcomm’s next Snapdragon, and paired it with first-wave LPDDR6 support that lifts effective memory bandwidth by 33 percent at the same clock. Storage moves to UFS 5.0, with twice the read and write speed. MediaTek says the platform trims memory use while phone makers work through a supply crunch that has pushed DRAM prices sharply higher.
A Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU adds 27 percent more peak performance at 24 percent lower power, ray tracing that runs 18 percent faster and games at up to 185fps. The dual-engine NPU 1090 handles on-device mixture-of-experts models up to 30B parameters and cuts token-generation power by 40 percent.
The 9600M keeps flagship-level performance but drops UFS 5.0 and switches to Arm’s C1 cores. Oppo’s Find X10 Pro Max, due next week, will be an early home for the Pro chip.
