Nearfield Instruments has closed a $380 million Series D funding round, the largest deep-tech financing ever raised in the Netherlands, as the metrology startup positions itself at the center of next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.

The round values the company at $1.6 billion and was led by Fidelity Management & Research, with participation from Temasek, Walden Catalyst Ventures, Innovation Industries, M&G, Invest-NL, and the Qatar Investment Authority.

Nearfield’s metrology and inspection tools address critical measurement challenges for High-NA EUV lithography, gate-all-around and CFET transistor architectures, and hybrid-bonded 3D integration. As chipmakers transition to these complex structures, accurate high-throughput measurements become essential for yield control.

“This highly successful funding round reflects the growing strategic importance of metrology in the era of AI-driven semiconductor innovation,” said Dr. Hamed Sadeghian, co-founder and CEO. The company plans to use the capital to accelerate its innovation roadmap, establish worldwide applications centers, expand production capacity, and deepen collaborative R&D.

The investment underscores how equipment and materials startups are attracting record capital as the industry invests over $200B annually in new fabs.
