Rigaku Corporation has opened the Rigaku Solutions Center Osaka (RSC-Osaka) at its Osaka Plant, centralizing hands-on training for field service engineers to meet rising demand for advanced semiconductor metrology support.
Facility purpose and context
As semiconductor manufacturing advances toward finer geometries, higher layer counts, and complex three-dimensional structures, metrology systems require greater precision and operational stability. X-ray analytical technologies are increasingly critical for delivering accurate, non-destructive measurements in these demanding environments.
Rigaku’s growing shipments of semiconductor metrology systems have created a parallel need for highly skilled field service engineers. Practical training is essential to maximize instrument performance and minimize customer downtime.
Training capabilities and infrastructure
RSC-Osaka is a dedicated training facility housed within a newly constructed cleanroom at the Osaka Plant. It contains multiple semiconductor metrology systems, enabling trainees to practice equipment disassembly and assembly, system adjustment, and performance verification.
The facility replicates real-world field conditions, allowing service engineers to develop advanced maintenance and troubleshooting skills. This hands-on approach ensures that engineers from Rigaku and its global distribution partners receive consistent, high-quality instruction.
Global service standardization
“Our customers rely on Rigaku systems in some of the world’s most demanding semiconductor manufacturing environments,” said Markus Kuhn, Executive Officer and General Manager of Rigaku’s Semiconductor Metrology Division. He noted that consolidating multiple training systems at RSC-Osaka enables more efficient, flexible training tailored to different skill levels.
The facility’s location within the Osaka Plant also allows Rigaku to train more engineers simultaneously, strengthening technical expertise and standardizing service practices across its global network. This directly enhances the support provided to semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.
Forward-looking significance
Rigaku plans to expand the range of systems covered by its training programs and increase training opportunities for service engineers. By investing in dedicated, hands-on infrastructure, the company is positioning itself to sustain high-quality global support as semiconductor metrology demands continue to escalate. This move reinforces Rigaku’s role as a critical enabler of precision manufacturing in the semiconductor supply chain.
