The Semiconductor Industry Association put third-quarter chip sales at $517.7B on Tuesday, 24.1 percent above the second quarter. It is the third consecutive quarter in which the market grew by more than 20 percent quarter over quarter.

The September number was $172.6B, up 7.9 percent from August and 146.8 percent from September 2025. Monthly figures are a three-month moving average compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organisation.

Every region doubled on the year

Nothing in the regional table was close. September sales rose 191.7 percent year on year in the Americas, 141.4 percent in Asia Pacific and the rest of the world, 124.9 percent in China, 102.5 percent in Europe and 73.4 percent in Japan.

The month-on-month column was narrower but positive everywhere: 11.0 percent in the Americas, 8.7 percent in Japan, 8.1 percent in Europe, 6.9 percent in Asia Pacific and 4.2 percent in China.

SIA president and CEO Michael Robbins said growth held across all major regional markets, calling the industry’s global reach part of its role in productivity and competitiveness.

What the average hides

A 24 percent quarterly jump is not broad-based demand. Memory prices have been the dominant driver for two quarters, with AI server orders pulling DRAM and NAND allocation away from consumer buyers.

The release does not break memory out separately, and the association sells the detailed WSTS dataset commercially. That gap matters when reading the regional splits, because a country’s exposure to memory production shapes its number far more than its share of logic design.
